The Mary Rose

Made with Freeway 4

SCRAP

The Mary Rose - a 16th century war ship in KInd Henry VIII's fleet. Built between 1509 and 1511, she had a long career in service before sinking in a freak accident in 1545 during an engagement with the French fleet. She was recovered in 1982, after a long underwater archaeological investigation and has been traeted with preservative chemicals ever since. She is currently being sprayed with a preservative chemical which will stop the timbers from distrting when they are dried. She will then be housed in a permenant display in Portsmouth in 2011. The pictures were taken in very low lighting conditions, with no means of support (other than leaning on a wall), through a protective screen. The haze is the preservative being sprayed on the timbers. For more on the ship, vist www.maryrose.org
